WESTPORT Canoe Trip 2002
June 21st, 22nd, & 23rd 2002

Well the annual event is here again and I’m happy to say last year we had  a group of 44. Last year we had about 5 no shows but for the most part everyone showed and had a good time. Well Dougie Dog didn't show up last year because of some family issues but Jeremy, K-Dog, Tony and a few others stepped up and took care of the cooking. The kitchen was kicking last year thanks to Jeremy, Nick and Tony. I had some minor difficulties with the freshly brewed coffee but think we got the bugs worked out for next year. There was plenty of breakfast for those that did eat for all. Totals food consumed 15 pounds of bacon, 10 dozen eggs, and 10 pounds of potatoes. And can you believe K-Dog didn't get kicked out? There was about 10 or so people that showed up for the Thursday option night which we all strongly recommend to everyone made the weekend that much better. The campgrounds are reserved next year for June 21st, 22nd, and 23rd weekend. The trip was moved up this year because Karen and I are getting married next August so we had a lot of things going in July and August. So hopefully this doesn't effect everyone's schedules too bad and hopefully it will still be hot enough for all of us too. So we have 2 water sites reserved next year hopefully we can get the number of the group up just about 10 or so people so I don't have to hassle with the front. I guess they change it to we need 60 people for both spots but I'm not exactly sure of that so we can just find a few more people. Actually it was so hot we didn't need as much firewood as we ended up with which help the food bill. And we didnt' run out of propane last year actually didn't run out of many things. On a side note I just wanted to thank the few people that help me find Karen on Saturday night. Incase anyone wants to know what REALLY happened we stopped at a few campsites before we finally got back to the pickup spot. At one of the campsites someone told Karen it was a 2 minute walk to get back instead of just floating home she decided to walk. Well it ended up being 2 1/2 hour walk instead of 2 minutes. So everything ended up okay and just wanted to thank everyone that helped find Karen thank you again. The security guy came down at 11:30pm and said "boy you guy are getting in off the River late" Coscia and I replied no we are right on time they dropped us off late. I told him that isn't no 2-3 hour Tube trip after being on the river for 11 hours!. haha. If you have not received the WESTPORT email and you want to receive it please email me at Anthony.C.Portelli@tridelec.com

PRICES

bulletThe price for this year is $36 per person (16 mile tube or canoe Moffatt Price) or the usual $69 for couple. NOTE: A couple is defined as a female and male.

OPTIONS:
bulletRegular Canoe Trip is called the Moffatt.

Which is 16 miles that can be tubed or canoed. Only 4 people canoed this last year but we had a pretty good TUBER turn out!

bulletLong Canoe trip Greenwood option

Is a 29 mile canoe trip opposed to the Moffatt of 16 miles the short one only 4 people went on.. The additional charge for this is $5 per person. If you choose this option you need to tell ME NOW because I have to collect this money. ($40 per person or $80 for couples!)

bulletKayak option

bulletIf you want to kayak the Greenwood (29 miles) the cost is $48 per person.
bulletIf you want to kayak the for Moffat (16 mile) kayak trip it is $42 per person.
bulletPretty Long Canoe Trip  High Banks Option (40 miles)

If you thought the Greenwood trip wasn't long enough canoe from the High banks. 40 miles which they say takes 6-8 hours. Cost $41 per person.

bullet   SUPER LONG Trip White Ash (65 miles)

If you thought the Greenwood trip wasn't long enough canoe from the White Ash. 65  miles which they say takes 11-12 hours. Cost $54 per person. Now that is canoeing the entire TIME not floating for 11-12 hours.

bulletWednesday & Thursday Night option:

If you want to come up Thursday night it will be an additional $9 per person for that night and it can be paid at the Riverview Campsite for the camping.

bulletThe group decided that they didn't care for the food so everyone is responsible for FEEDING themselves. Some breakfast things listed below will be there. NO DINNER & NO LUNCH will be provided. The quote was "Rather cook my own".

What does this money cover?

    1. Camping for Friday night and Saturday night.
    2. Canoeing or Tubing on Saturday (16 MILES). (3 hours)  Note: Unless you go with the option.
    3. Tuber Alert: If you are tubing and want a tube for your beer it is $6 bucks EXTRA.
    4. Community Grill, charcoal, ketchup, and mustard  will be provided. This is just so everyone doesn't have to bring there own charcoal and grills.
    5. Firewood for the weekend.
    6. Unlimited supply of the Famous EGG hole.
    7. Unlimited supply of freshly brewed coffee.

    Famous EGG hole

    "Every try and Egg Hole"

bulletThe prices listed in this web page are FINAL. You DO NOT have a canoe or tube until I have cash in my hand. I can tell you the lists of people that say there going and at the last minute something comes up? Everyone has these things however the campground doesn't give me a refund so I can't give you a refund. I can't tell you all the money I lost because of this. The entire amount is DUE up front no partial payment or I'll pay you when I get my check stuff. I have chased people down year after year to get $20 bucks? Lets just make this fun and simple send me the FULL amount
bulletMoney is due by May 1th 2002
bullet Who ever doesn't give me the money for the trip before the above DUE date ( May 1st 2002) will pay a $10 per person late fee which will go toward the FIREWOOD and addition breakfast items.
bulletOnce you pick what trip you are going on that is it. I spent 2 hours the day of the trip changing everyone canoe's around and trips around. Let's make this SIMPLE and FUN!

Send Money to:

Anthony C. Portelli
11497 Dunlavy Lane
Whitmore Lake MI 48189

Karen cell phone 810.634.4783 if you have questions.

Why a late Fee:

bulletThe late fee is to make people pay the fee on time so we can give the resort a proper headcount.
bulletLate fee helps pay for the huge fires.
bulletSome how or the other I always have to chase people down for $20 or $35 so prevents the chase.
bulletBreakfast was more then expected last year so increased the late fee to cover for some of the additional costs.
bulletRobo loves paying me the late fee.

What time should I get there?

bulletMost of us are taking Friday off of work and plan on getting up there around 2:00 pm. I would suggest getting UP THERE BEFORE it gets dark because it’s a PAIN in the ass to setup a tent in the DARK. And everyone will just laugh at you anyway.
