WESTPORT Canoe Trip 2003
August 8h, 9th, & 10th 2003

WE OWN THE LAND THIS TIME.

Well last year was nothing but event full. For those of you who didn't show up to the trip the story goes something like this. I was told to return my canoe and didn't bring it right in. So when I came to shore the person said he saw me urinating on the other side of the river and I was in big trouble. When I finally got to shore the person whined about me getting the canoe in late and asked me to leave. So I was tired and been drinking all day and went back to the tent and went to bed. Later that night after I was sleeping the state police came to escort me out of the tent o the local jail for the night. The charge was for trespassing in which I was cleared of all charges and where dismissed. So it was a complete waste of everyone time.  If I had to do it again I wouldn't of left anyways because I don't care to get a DUI for having to leave. And I guess after I left they threaten to toss the entire group off the campgrounds. The bottom line in my opinion of the event is Riverview has poor customer service, security, and wants to just take your money and to you to leave there campgrounds. Again if I did do something wrong I find it funny I wasn't prosecuted and the charges where dismissed? And why was I the ONLY one single out when I was with other people? I only pray the lord shows them the wisdom. I was going to file a case against them for harassment and other things. So that was last year here what we are doing this year so we don't have to deal with the following issues.

bullet

Fire to big: Seems every year we go to these local camping areas we are told to keep the size of the fire down.

bullet

Noise: Seems every year we are told to keep the music down. I think the kicker was last year before everyone came up there Karen and I were sitting by the fire with my laptop playing music and the security told me I had to turn off my laptop because it was too loud. And if anyone knows the speakers they put in a laptop would understand it is NOT loud.

bullet

Howling: In the past years we have had a major problem with security in regards to the howling.

bullet

Paying out the ASS: Seems these little campgrounds have plenty of rules and regulations for just about everything including visitors coming up north not spending the night pay for a sticker to come visit. Along with having to pay PER person for the campgroundsb not per site. Fee for taking a shower, and every other stupid fee they can come up with to jam you with.

bullet

PETS must be on a leash at ALL Times.

For those of you that venture up to the rifle river will find this year we have located 26 acre lot in which we will be camping. A friend of mine owns a house up North and has given us the permission to camp on his land. So since this is new to a lot of people I'm sure there will be a lot of questions. The place we will be staying at has a house on it so we have gotten permission to use the back bathroom of the house to take showers. There will be 2 porta potties(which will be CLEANED and Fresh before we get there)  located onsite for our use along with the use of my RV. The place is located 1/2 mile from the Rifle rive so we are within walking distance of the river. The bus will pick up canoers at the end of the drive way and hall us to the location where we choose to canoe from. The drop off will be located 1/2 mile from where we are staying:

bullet

so it can be walked to after you get off the river

bullet

there will be a bus to pick everyone up at 5:00pm to take you back to the house

bullet

I also might have someone do shuttle runs from the house to the pickup every other hour or every hour. (Details still being worked out for this)

Few new options this year and some of the favorites.

bulletLATE FEE Increase to $10 per PERSON! (help pay for the wood and cover food expenses).
bulletWednesday & Thursday Night option
bulletNOT TO BE HASSLED by a bunch of idiot campground owners. PRICE: FREE

For all you folks that would like the details about the river that we will be canoeing on it is called the "Rifle River" in Sterling MI.

New for this year:

bulletEveryone will canoe 18 miles down the river so there will NOT be the option of differnt canoe or tuber rides. NO Tubing this year I'll try to get the details worked out for next year for the tubing. (So NO LONG or SHORT canoe trip just the same) Last year the long trip was 26 miles and the short one was 16 miles.
bulletNew campgrounds actual HOUSE with 26 acres

bulletThe prices listed in this web page are FINAL. You DO NOT have a canoe until I have cash in my hand. I can tell you the lists of people that say there going and at the last minute something comes up? Everyone has these things however the campground doesn't give me a refund so I can't give you a refund. I can't tell you all the money I lost because of this. The entire amount is DUE up front no partial payment or I'll pay you when I get my check stuff. I have chased people down year after year to get $20 bucks? Lets just make this fun and simple send me the FULL amount
bulletMoney is due by June 25th
bullet Who ever doesn't give me the money for the trip before the above DUE date will pay a $10 per person late fee which will go toward the FIREWOOD and addition breakfast items.
bulletEveryone will be canoeing the same trip this year!

Send Money to:

Anthony C. Portelli
11497 Dunlavy Lane
Whitmore Lake MI 48189

Why a late Fee:

bulletThe late fee is to make people pay the fee on time because I have to pre-pay everything.
bulletLate fee helps pay for the huge fires.
bulletSome how or the other I always have to chase people down for $20 or $35 so prevents the chase.
bulletBreakfast was more then expected last year so increased the late fee to cover for some of the additional costs.
bulletRobo loves paying me the late fee.
