But are we? Of course not!!! Yes, some more than others. Still others are consumed by control...to be led and fed, to lead and feed-a thought, an idea, or an order. Domination or passiveness is their food(a little S & M?). Independence is for us all!
However, it is the spirit, the spirit as it was so long ago that conjure up the images...A little Tea Party(Spot of Tea!)? An infamous horsy ride(One if by land, two if by sea!)? A cracked bell down Philly way? What plays in your mind?
Contemplate what they endured, sacrificed, and fought for over two centuries ago-independence, but, oh what a price.....the visions of those historic battle sites(Rockets red glare, bombs bursting in air....but the flag was still there!) with their crude, but quite deadly weapons(we talk about weapons of mass destruction, but what has changed?). But yet we celebrate, for we must-independence and birth of a nation, we must for the instinct, insight and mere brilliance their sheer will helped produce as they put pen to paper and put together that document that stands 222-Two Hundred and Twenty Two years later, our Constitution!!!
Independence........perhaps it has been retained-retained in the spirit that it was EARNED!!! Consequently, you are cordially invited to celebrate the independence of this great country, THE BEST in the world, at WESTPORT, a private, secluded, park-like compound on the chain of lakes in the sleepy town of Hamburg, MI!!!
Come enjoy the sandy beach, the "broken bridge," the eight lakes connected by the natural, beautiful Huron River-All floating devices(especially jet skis so the drunks can enjoy!) are welcome and a launch is available. Come, come enjoy some horseshoes, volleyball, pool, the water fun, as well as anything else your imagination(Yes, YOURS!) can dream up that spells F-U-N(Yes, as always "In the Sun" as it’s always sunny in Hamburg!)!! More? Comedy by "Tractor Bob" and his little puppet "Pinky" and they will also be giving tours of the "Burned out Residence!" A little more? A trip to OH is imminent so please leave your cheap, little , dangerous bottle rockets at home and enjoy the show at WESTPORT, as well as the one on Portage Lake Saturday Nite! Still more? OK, how about a little music? "AIN’T RIGHT(You’re telling me!)" is up Saturday nite. Hint for the PICO types-his initials are T.R. but we know him as D.R! For your afternoon enjoyment, Wastelands own "SUBJECT TO CHANGE" with Nick and the boys!!! Come on out and support both bands efforts, won’t you???!!!
OK, down to basics-WESTPORT will, for lack of a better word be providing an entree for Saturday so bring along a dish to pass around, as well as your favorite little snacks! Yes, a keg will be there but you know how that goes so bring your 12’s, 18’s, cases, or more!!! As always, remember "the store is NOT right down the street" so do come prepared! Your beach/water stuff is a must and it would behoove you to bring some bug spray! Camping types are welcome to bring your RV’s, popup’s, tents or whatever. Hell, come on out Thursday or Friday and get set up(and ready to party!). Plenty of room and a bonfire awaits your marshmallows!!! Kraft, right???!!!
A message to you lets go "up north" types-you will be hard pressed to say that you are not up north, except you won’t have to deal with that drive and those fricking OH drivers!!! So do come and enjoy this Independence Day at WESTPORT!!!!
FROM POINTS SOUTH AND EAST:
96 To 14, or 94 to 23 NORTH and go to exit #53(Whitmore Lake). This is basically Eight Mile Rd but it has at least 2-3 name changes. When you exit TURN LEFT and go 2.6 miles (there is 3 curves) to STRAWBERRY LAKE ROAD(a cemetery is on the right side). TURN LEFT and go 3.5 miles to DUNLAVY LANE(look for 3 roads close together like city blocks, starting with West Lane, then Louis St and Louis Lane and the 4th one is your turn) and TURN RIGHT and go to a T (after a curve) in road. At T TURN LEFT(watch out as a tree separates the lanes). Go to a Y in road and TURN RIGHT to FIRST HOUSE- a TAUPE CHALET: 11497 Dunlavy Lane. Yes, you will be ready for a cold beverage!!!
CONSTRUCTION NOTE: M-14 is down to ONE LANE, but you can take N Territorial all the the way to US 23 if you EXIT at BECK ROAD, take a left to the light which is Territorial and turn right and go about 13 miles to US 23. You can either head North on 23 or continue over 23 and go about 6 miles to Mask Rd(this will be your SECOND flashing yellow, with your first one being your last chance to stop at a store!). Turn RIGHT onto Mask and go about 3.5 miles to to a stop sign which is Strawberry Lake Road. Turn RIGHT for 1/2 mile to Dunlavy on your left, the first street.
FROM POINTS NORTH AND EAST:
696 To 96, or M59 to 23 SOUTH and go to exit #55(Silver Lake Rd). TURN RIGHT and go to stop sign(which is right there) and TURN LEFT to FIRST STREET(Winias Lake Rd) and TURN RIGHT . Go 2.1 miles until it dead ends at stop sign and TURN LEFT and go to another dead end and stop sign. TURN RIGHT (M36) and go 1.1 mile to MERRILL Rd (a lake is on right and a Dairy Queen is on left). TURN LEFT to first stop sign and TURN RIGHT onto STRAWBERRY LAKE ROAD and go about 1.8 miles to DUNLAVY LANE. As mentioned above look for the 3 roads close together and the 4th one is Dunlavy-follow the directions above once you make the turn unto Dunlavy.
FROM POINTS NORTH AND WEST:
96 to D19 exit in Howell. TURN RIGHT unto D19 and go 9 miles to dead end or "T". TURN LEFT(M36) and go about 5.9 miles to MERRILL RD. TURN RIGHT(Only way) and follow directions above once you get to first stop sign which is STRAWBERRY LAKE RD!

From public launch on Portage follow Huron down to the island at Little Gallager and go RIGHT down the canal. Once you come out we are the 2nd dock with the beach!!!
